Very interesting documentary on the recent shark related incidents at Lennox Head and Ballina on the North Coast of New South Wales, Australia by http://www.tracksmag.com/
Recently the Department of Primary Industries has announced plans on implementing eco shark barriers, which are made of strong nylon rope with openings large enough for fish to swim through, yet small enough to stop large sharks. The barriers are designed to prevent entanglement and drowning.
The nets have been tested at Coogee beach in Western Australia and appear to be working. To protect the beach the nets will have to be placed from shore line to shore line and across any creek mouths as bull sharks can live in fresh water.
In addition four shark observation towers will built one each at Lighthouse Beach in Ballina, Manly Beach, Shellharbour and Port Stephens.
